History
St. Aidan’s origins trace back to 2002 with Rev. Justin Lindstrom as our founding vicar. The inaugural service was held in his living room on September 11, 2002. As the congregation grew, services moved to nearby Lamkin Elementary School and then Arnold Middle School.
A major milestone occurred in 2007 when the congregation celebrated its first Christmas Eve Service in what would become our new worship building. Though the building was still under construction—lacking electricity, a roof, and many structural elements—the service was made possible by a one-day building permit. Congregants gathered by candlelight, bundled in coats on a concrete slab floor, marking a moment of deep faith and commitment. It was truly a memorable service!
A symbolic steel beam, painted white and inscribed with prayers from members, was incorporated into the church structure, embodying the dedication and faith of the St. Aidan’s community.
In February 2014, St. Aidan’s transitioned from mission status to parish status. Four years later, the growing congregation began expanding its facilities. Rector Rev. Les Carpenter, who had joined St. Aidan’s in 2012, worked closely with the building committee to design the new space. The expansion included converting the original sanctuary into a parish hall and building a new sanctuary with double the seating capacity. During this expansion, the tradition of writing prayers on key structural elements continued, this time on the altar chancel.
Despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and the temporary closing of our doors, our community remained connected through online worship services and virtual coffee hours. These online services continue to be an essential part of our Sunday worship, with participants joining via Facebook and YouTube.
Over the course of 22 years, we have been led by two devoted priests: Rev. Justin Lindstrom, our founding vicar who served for 10 years, and Rev. Les Carpenter, who was our rector for 12 years. Today, Rev. Thomas Morris serves as our Interim Rector, guiding us during this season of transition.
St. Aidan’s remains a vibrant, young church with deep, enduring roots. Our members exemplify the living word of God through their unity, faith and outreach, and we look forward to continuing our mission together.
